Samkeppniseftirlitið
"Samkeppniseftirlitið" (The Icelandic Competition Authority) is an independent regulatory body established in 2005 to safeguard free and fair market competition in Iceland. The agency's previous logo—a monogram combining the letters "S" and "E"—suffered from inconsistent proportions, poor digital scalability, and a lightweight style that conflicted with the authority's formal enforcement power; it also failed to reflect the organization's common acronym, SKE. The newly designed visual identity resolves these issues with a strong, confident symbol grounded in the balanced proportions of the golden ratio and built around a darker, richer navy palette. Composed of a single continuous line that seamlessly forms the letters "S," "K," and "E," the mark cleverly represents the transition from a monopoly to open market competition while providing the institutional credibility and clarity required for a modern regulatory authority.
"The Icelandic Competition Authority approached Halldór Smári for ideas for a new logo and visual identity, as after two decades of operation, it was time to refresh the authority's appearance. Halldór immediately presented well-developed and well-reasoned concepts for a new logo, typography, color palette, and other visual elements that suit the role of the Competition Authority. Working with him was fruitful and enjoyable in every respect, and we are delighted with the result. We extend our sincere thanks to him."
